A dramatic security scare unfolded at the Accra Circuit Court when police arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly threatening the life of an investigator and unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition.
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man, Seth Welbeck, for allegedly threatening the life of a police investigator and unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition.

The arrest occurred on Monday, February 3, 2026, following court proceedings related to a forgery case in which the suspect had been summoned to appear before the Accra Circuit Court.
According to police, after the court session, the suspect requested permission to lock his vehicle while being escorted to the court cells. In the process, he allegedly retrieved a Smith and Wesson SD9 VE pistol loaded with nine rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition from the vehicle and pointed it at the investigator, issuing a threat.

With the swift intervention of the investigator, court officials, and witnesses, the suspect was quickly disarmed before any harm was caused.
Seth Welbeck is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before the court to face additional charges.
The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against acts of violence, threats, and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, stressing that such actions endanger lives and property.
Police further urged the public to comply fully with lawful court processes and police procedures, warning that any attempt to intimidate public officers or obstruct justice will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
