
The Accra Regional Police Command has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the assault of JoyNews journalist, Latif Iddrisu.
On Monday, 9th June 2025, the suspect, Theophilus Kpakpo Thompson—who was arrested on 7th June—was arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court.
Thompson has been charged with two offences:
- Assault, contrary to Section 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29)
- Threat of Death,contrary to Section 75 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29)
The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges. The court subsequently remanded him into police custody to reappear on 18th June 2025.
The Accra Regional Police Command has reiterated its firm commitment to protecting journalists and ensuring they are able to carry out their duties without fear, intimidation, or interference.
Members of the public are encouraged to support this mission by reporting acts of violence or threats against media personnel to the nearest police station.
