BREAKING: MP for Zebilla, Cletus Apul Avoka to Step Down after 24 years in Parliament (Video)

The member of Parliament for Zebilla constituency, Cletus Apul Avoka, has announced his exit from parliament after 2024.

The six-time member of Parliament who had his photograph on the ballot in all eight elections is stepping down honourably to allow the youth to take over

Cletus Apul Avoka made the announcement at a Youth Wing dinner, organized by the Zebilla constituency NDC youth organizer, John Akutam and his deputy, Asaki Airforce 1.

Cletus Apul Avoka became a member of parliament in the first parliament of the fourth republic on the ticket of Bawku West, which is now the Zebilla constituency and served for six terms.

The lawmarker commonly referred to as the Mugabe of Zebilla politics, lost his bid twice, and missed the fourth and seventh parliaments.

Cletus Avorka served on various Committees including the Judiciary Committee, where he was the Ranking Member, Subsidiary Legislation, Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and the Defense and Interior Committees of parliament.

He also served as deputy minister and minister of state including minister for the interior and local governments under former presidents Rawlings, Attah-Mills and John Mahama.

Cletus Apul Avoka was born on Friday November 30, 1951 in Zebilla in the upper east region of Ghana.

He obtained the Bachelor of law (llb) in 1976, Barrister at law in 1978 and Executive Master of arts Degree in Conflict, Peace and Security in 2015.

The 72-year-old private legal practitioner and politician, returned to the eighth parliament after defeating New Patriotic Party, NPP’s, Frank Adongo Fuseini who wrestled the seat from him in the 2016 general elections.

At the end of December 2024, he would have served the people of Ghana and the Zebilla constituency in particular, 24 years as a member of parliament, a milestone he is proud of.

The organizer of the NDC maiden dinner and get together in Zebilla, John Akutam charged the leadership of the party in the constituency work extra hard to retain power for the NDC in the constituency.

He said the sacrifices made by the youth in the past must be consolidated by securing victory in 2024.

John Akutam said the youth of the party are poised to sacrifice their time and resources by going the extra mile without any hindrance to ensure that the NDC wins the Zebilla seat both at the presidential and parliamentary levels.

He said there shall be vigorous house to house, village to village and town to town campaigns to canvas for massive votes to enable the NDC return to power in 2024 to save Ghana from the grossly selfish and incompetent NPP rule.

In a related development, the son of the Late private legal practitioner, John Akparibo Ndebugre, Nelson Ndebugre, has donated 2 brand new motorbikes and laptops to the Zebilla constituency office of the opposition national democratic congress NDC.

The philanthropic citizen also pledged 1,000-cedi monthly stipends to support the fuel needs of the constituency executive official duties to react out to the constituents and sell the good messages about the party to the people.

The Constituency chairman, Atiah Kudugu, expressed gratitude to the gesture from Nelson Ndebugre, assuring him of making good use of them to benefit the party and Ghana as a whole.

The zebilla constituency is one of the largest in the upper east region and require a lot of effort to reach out to all the electorates.
