Awinongya Jr lost a split decision to Ahmed Almadji in the semi-final clash in the ongoing USA 2022 Junior Olympics. He will now settle for the bronze medal.

The very talented and skilful young boxer was not perturbed. He just said “Today the judges said I lost, but my family was very happy with the skill set that I showed.

I will post the fight so everyone can see. I saw many of my supporters at the nationals, I would like to thank everyone that is following”.

Mustapha Nettey, an executive of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) and a publicist of Awinongya said the result was a very disturbing trend that is developing in boxing which is not healthy for the sport.

“Yesterday the 15th of July 2022 at the 2022 USA Junior Olympics some very bad officiating occurred in some few fights which I deem it fit to share with the boxing world.

Bad officiating is not new to boxing but we should not entertain this at the junior and youth levels of the sport.

The ramifications of bad officiating at this level are dangerous for the development of the sport” he expressed.

He urged boxing fans to watch the fight between Joseph Awinongya Jr. and Ahmed Almadji.
