Anti-Galamsey Crackdown: 17 Arrested in Western Region in two coordinated operations

The Western Central Regional Police Command has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining activities, arresting seventeen (17) suspects during two coordinated operations at Adamaso and Wassa Mamieso on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

At Adamaso, twelve individuals were arrested during a dawn swoop on suspected illegal mining sites. The suspects include: Abraham Antwi (26), Jeremiah Adusei (37), Eric Martey (41), George Amoah (45), Misasa Jonas (25), Larry Ndaaso (42), Ezekiel Dome (22), Bismark Adu (19), Alex Sabla (34) , Godfrey Acheampong (29), Ebenezer Mensah (21), Emmanuel Appiah (25)

Police also seized five (5) water pumping machines believed to have been used for illegal mining.

In a separate intelligence-led operation near the Mamie River at Wassa Mamieso, police apprehended five additional suspects: Junior Simon (21), Stephen Tetteh (30), Samuel Kwarteng (19), Matthew Wofatey (20), Seidu Ayigbe (30)

A “Sunny 215 Control Board Excavator” was retrieved from the site.

All suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations. The seized equipment has been retained as exhibits.

Police have reiterated their commitment to dismantling illegal mining operations across the region and called on the public to support the fight against environmental degradation.
