A Walk Into the Future: The Inspiring Journey of Silas Sarfo Appiah

3 Min Read

Last Saturday, November 22, marked a remarkable milestone for PAQ Foundation LBG, and an unforgettable day for Silas Sarfo Appiah, who proudly donned his academic gown as part of the 59th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Silas’s journey to this moment is one written with resilience, divine favour, and timely intervention.

Back in 2016, in the Lake Volta community of Kete-Krachi, Silas was on the brink of missing the opportunity to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). His mother, a poor widow, simply could not afford the ₵75 registration fee. Desperate to give her son a chance, she visited the district Social Welfare office, pleading for assistance.

It was at that moment that the Founder and Executive Director of PAQ Foundation, Peter Quao Adattor, on a rural reporting assignment, encountered her. Moved by her story, he made enquiries at Silas’s school,  and the feedback was unanimous: Silas was exceptionally brilliant.

What began as a reporting mission instantly transformed into a humanitarian intervention.

Silas went on to register for and write the BECE with outstanding results. He continued to senior high school, and later earned admission to KNUST to pursue a BSc in Computer Science.

Today, the same young boy who nearly lost his future because of ₵75 has graduated with a Second Class Upper degree, walking across the KNUST stage with pride and purpose.

Silas Sarfo Appiah is currently undertaking his national service at the Ghana Water Limited Head Office in Accra, a testament to what timely support, opportunity, and determination can achieve.

At PAQ Foundation LBG, we remain grateful to God for His continuous wonders in the lives of Silas and many others. His journey fuels our commitment to creating pathways for young people, especially those facing life’s toughest barriers.

We can only pray for long life to witness the many more chapters of Silas’s unfolding story, a true walk into the future.
