Due to a lack of facilities, some students at the Wa Senior High School have had to turn toilet stalls into boys’ dormitories.
The impacted students are willing to put up with whatever obstacles are in their path in order to get an education.
The Wa Senior High School in the Wa municipality of the upper west region welcomes new students with dilapidated infrastructure, including dorms, and dining hall.
The school since its establishment in 1967 has never witnessed any major expansion in spite of the steady increase in student population.
These dormitories are very small in size and are in terrible condition leading to severe congestion.
There present students population of 1,961 appeared to have worsened the accommodation challenges in the school.
Male students are therefore forced to turn toilet cubicles into dormitories.
The school also lacked the complement of teaching and learning materials.
The headmaster of the Wa Senior High School, Iddrisu Adam Thirdman, decried the situation, which he said is adversely hampering academic performance
The national chairman of the Wa Secondary School Old Students Association, WASSOSA, Professor Robert Yennah, described the situation as intolerable.
The 1980-year group of WASSOSA, has meanwhile supported the school with a duplication machine and two projectors to help improve on administrative and academic works.
The Wa Senior High School was established in 1967 as a co-educational second-cycle institution with 70 pupils and 5 teachers.
