Togbe Afede XIV, the Executive Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, has praised the club’s Board and Management for their ability to move the club forward.
He made this assertion during a lengthy press conference following the team’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.
In the preliminary round of Africa’s second-tier club football competition, Hearts were defeated 1-3 on aggregate by Malian side Real Bamako.
To address concerns raised by fans about the need for a Chief Executive Officer to oversee the club’s operations, Togbe Afede stated: “We believe that as a Board and management, we have what it takes to move this club forward. Remember, this is still this team that win treble in 2022- 2021. Until we find someone we see qualified to lead this great club, I will continue to act as the Executive Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak, supported by the Board and, of course, management.”
Following Hearts’ exit from the Confederation Cup, fans expressed their displeasure, with some deflating Board Member Vincent Sowah Odotei’s car tires.
Also, at the presser, Togbe Afede unveiled Serbian national Slavko Matic as the new coach to replace Samuel Boadu.
The 46 year old has previously played for OFK Beograd, Spartak Moscow, PFC Slavia Sofia, and PFC CSKA Sofia. Matic served as manager of Arda Kardzhali for a brief period between November 12 and December 16, 2021, before being relieved of his duties following a contentious interview in which he revealed serious issues within the club.
Second tier Belgium team Septemvri Sofia was the last team he managed earlier in 2022 before his appointment to manage Accra Hearts of Oak.
