Former President John Mahama has denied the claim of taking the fattest ex- gratia of 14 million cedis when he left office in 2013. The claim, debunked in a rejoinder issued on Tuesday, September 6, was made by Kwame Bafoe of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP.
“President Mahama never took any such ex- gratia of 14 million in 2013 or at any time during his 25 years of distinguished public service. Fortunately, ex- gratia payments are a matter of public record and are available in the office of the chief of staff or the controller or accountant General’s department,“ the statement indicated.
The office of the former president is challenging the chief of staff and the presidency to provide proof that verifies the claim. They allege that this is another ploy by the president to set a decoy against the topical issues of hardships faced by Ghanaians.
The former President reiterates his assurance of the leanest government ever with far fewer ministers should he be voted to power in 2024. He also promises frugal spending.
He also promises the implementation of the 1992 constitution review.
