The Office of the Special Prosecutor is investigating possible wrongdoing in the auction sales of vehicles and other assets by the Ghana Revenue Authority between 1 July 2016 and 15 August 2022.

According to a statement from the Special Prosecutor, the Commissioner of the Customs Division was ordered on 19 August 2022 to present relevant documents by 30 September 2022.

The office wants a description and amount of all auctioned objects, the prices at which they were auctioned, the date of each auction sale, and the names, addresses, and phone numbers of all successful bidders.

“The Special Prosecutor further directed the Commissioner of the Customs Division to immediately halt and discontinue all auction sales till the investigation is concluded,” the statement added.

The Special Prosecutor has also started a wider inquiry into the issue of customs advance rulings and markdowns of benchmark values between July 2017 and December 2021 in response to the investigation that cited Labianca Company Limited for crimes related to corruption.

The special prosecutor stated in a statement that the Commissioner of the Customs Division was expected to submit the specifics of all requests for customs advance rulings, requests for a markdown of benchmark values, requests for private rulings, requests for class rulings, and requests for decisions on individual requests regarding the application of customs law.
