The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a robbery on the Portor–Gurumpe Highway and recovered the entire ¢300,000 allegedly stolen from the victims.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., when police personnel stationed at the Portor Police Barrier received information that a robbery was in progress a few metres away on the highway.
A police team swiftly responded to the scene. While some suspects fled into the bush, 24-year-old Abdul Sadat Ali, the driver of a Toyota Voxy, was arrested.
During preliminary interrogation, he allegedly mentioned 24-year-old Samad Issahaka, driver of a Kia Rhino, as a member of the robbery gang. He was subsequently arrested.
Police investigations revealed that the owner of the Kia Rhino, 35-year-old Yahaya Seidu, had instructed his driver to take him to Buipe to purchase cattle.
The driver, who allegedly knew that his employer was carrying a large amount of money, is said to have conspired with five others to rob them.
Police say the suspects, armed with a toy pistol, followed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and attacked the occupants after the vehicle passed the Portor Police Barrier.
The suspects allegedly made away with ¢300,000 in cash.
With support from Counter Terrorism personnel, the police patrol team pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested four others: Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the entire amount allegedly stolen.
The police say the suspects have admitted to trailing the victims from Offinso before carrying out the robbery at Portor.
All six suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has commended the police personnel and Counter Terrorism team involved in the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property.
