Police Bust Suspected Human Trafficking Ring, Arrest 186 in Ashanti Region

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 186 suspects in a major intelligence-led operation targeting human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking, and other organised criminal activities in the Ashanti Region.

The operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT) from the National Police Headquarters in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command between June 8 and June 17, 2026.

According to the Police, the operation formed part of a broader strategy to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal networks operating within the region.

Following extensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and target profiling, security personnel conducted coordinated raids at Asafo, Kenyase Aframa, Asokwa, Buokrom, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Asawase, and Old Tafo Ahenbronum.

The operations resulted in the arrest of 186 suspects, made up of 86 Ghanaians, 96 Nigerians, and four Togolese nationals.

A significant breakthrough was recorded on June 9 at Kenyase Aframa, where police arrested a woman identified as Gladys Ibrahim, popularly known as “Mama Gee,” along with 96 Nigerian nationals and four Togolese nationals.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are linked to a transnational criminal syndicate involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking, and other organised criminal activities.

Police also rescued several individuals believed to have been victims of exploitation during the operation. Some of the victims were identified as minors and were immediately separated from the suspects and placed under protective care in accordance with child protection protocols.

Authorities disclosed that foreign nationals identified as victims are being processed in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service for the necessary immigration and repatriation procedures.

The Police Service commended members of the Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Police Command for their professionalism and commitment, which led to the successful execution of the operation.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the criminal network. The suspects remain in police custody or are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led policing and pledged to continue sustained operations aimed at combating organised crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the country.
