The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a truck driver after a large quantity of compressed plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs was discovered in his vehicle during a police operation along the Tema–Ada Highway.

The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit.
According to police, the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when officers signaled him to stop for inspection. He allegedly ignored the directive and attempted to flee, prompting a pursuit that ended at Bondase, where he was apprehended.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered twelve sacks and eighty parcels of compressed plant material concealed inside the container and wrapped with sellotape.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected narcotic substance was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the truck and the seized exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities and is urging the public to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the origin, destination, and possible network behind the suspected narcotics haul.
