A tragic early morning road incident has claimed the life of an unidentified foreign national in Cape Coast, raising fresh concerns about pedestrian safety and road discipline. Police say investigations are underway as they work to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The Central Region has recorded another fatal road incident after a foreign national, whose identity is yet to be established, was knocked down near the GOIL Filling Station at Pedu in Cape Coast.
Police say the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when a King Long Maxi Bus travelling from Accra toward Takoradi struck the victim while crossing the road.
The impact left the victim with severe injuries, prompting an immediate transfer to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for medical attention. However, medical officers later pronounced the person dead on arrival.
The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
Meanwhile, police examined the accident scene and impounded the vehicle for further testing as part of the investigation. The driver, identified as 47-year-old Essel George Aidoo, has been arrested and detained to assist investigators.
