Police identified the injured victims as James Kpanda, 44, and Jonathan Kpanda, 30. Both sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation and are currently receiving treatment at the Akatsi District Hospital.

According to preliminary police investigations, the incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. when some young men, including the two victims, allegedly stormed the residence of a suspect identified as Mensah Awagah and reportedly began pulling down his fence wall.

Police say the suspect allegedly became angered by the action, went into his room, retrieved a firearm, and opened fire on the group.

James Kpanda reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the knee, while Jonathan Kpanda suffered an injury to the eye.

The shooting triggered chaos in the area, with some angry youth allegedly going on rampage and setting ablaze a Mercedes-Benz private car and two motorbikes parked within the suspect’s residence.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were called to the scene, but the vehicle and motorbikes had already been burnt beyond recognition before firefighters arrived.
