Two robbery suspects have been handed lengthy prison sentences after pleading guilty to attacking and robbing a gold dealer in Asonkore near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command secured the convictions of Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu at the Bekwai Circuit Court on April 10, 2026.
The court sentenced Rashid Adams to 30 years imprisonment and Godfred Ampadu to 25 years imprisonment after both men pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently.
A third suspect, Dominic Naazie, who is alleged to have aided the robbery, pleaded not guilty and has been remanded into custody. He is expected to reappear before the court on April 24, 2026.

The convictions stem from a robbery incident on April 3, 2026, during which the suspects attacked a gold dealer at Asonkore. Police say the victim was knocked down with a tricycle before being robbed of gold and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Swift investigations by the Police led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen gold. Officers also retrieved a vehicle believed to have been purchased using proceeds from the robbery.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
Police say operations against robbery syndicates in mining communities will continue as part of efforts to protect traders and residents in the region.
