Update: Disturbing the Peace in a Public Place, Use of an Offensive Weapon, and Causing Harm

On 25th January 2026, at about 1140 hours, one Emmanuel Bonney, alias “Excoba,” a resident of Donkoyiem, Winneba, reported to the police station with severe bodily pains and bleeding from his head. He stated that earlier that day, at about 1000 hours, Francis Avugbedor and Quayson attacked him with cutlasses at Sankor, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds on him. He was issued a police medical report form to seek medical attention and report back.

Later the same day, at about 1500 hours, Francis Avugbedor also reported to the station with a deep cut on his left hand. He alleged that at about 1000 hours, Emmanuel Bonney, alias “Excoba”, and his associates attacked him at his residence at Sankor. He was likewise issued a police medical form to attend the hospital and report back.

At about 2200 hours on the same day, police received a distress call that one person had been shot at Sankor Junction.

Police Action Taken

Upon receipt of the distress call, police personnel swiftly proceeded to Sankor Junction, where they found Francis Avugbedor, who had earlier lodged a complaint, lying on the ground with gunshot injuries to his stomach near the ribs and on his left thigh near the knee. He was bleeding profusely.

The victim informed the police that at about 2130 hours, Sariki Alhaji Ayuba Mohammed, described as the Zongo Youth Chief, together with his associates, some of whom he identified as Dada Atto, Emmanuel Bonney alias “Excoba,” Kisses, and Mohammed Ali alias “Muzambiru”, attacked him at his residence. During the attack, Mohammed Ali, alias “Muzambiru”, allegedly fired gunshots at him, resulting in the injuries sustained.

While police were at the hospital attending to the victim, another adult male with suspected gunshot wounds to the stomach was rushed to the same facility. Information received indicated that he was also shot during the same incident. He was initially treated at the Baptist Hospital and later referred to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for further management.

Both victims are currently on admission and responding to treatment.

Arrests and Exhibits

Following investigations into the earlier incidents of 25th January 2026, police on 26th January 2026, at about 1200 hours, arrested the following suspects:

  • Emmanuel Bonney alias “Excoba”
  • Mohammed Ali alias “Muzambiru”
  • Sariki Alhaji Ayuba Mohammed

A pump-action gun, allegedly used in the commission of the crime, together with its accompanying documents, was retrieved from the residence of Sariki Alhaji Ayuba Mohammed.

The suspects have been cautioned and are in police custody, assisting with investigations. They will be arraigned before court accordingly.

The victims remain on admission at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital and the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, respectively.
