The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Mujaheed Suraj, in connection with a shooting incident that left two people injured during the 2024 general elections at Odupon Kpckpehe School Park, Kasoa Zongo, in the Central Region.
The suspect was arrested on January 17, 2026, following intelligence-led operations by the Police.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on December 7, 2024, at about 12:30 p.m., when officers responded to a distress call reporting that a man had opened fire indiscriminately at the polling centre. The suspect allegedly damaged a stationary pickup truck with registration number GT 9550-P and injured two individuals identified as Bukari Inusah (34) and Tanimu Adamu Tanko (44).

Upon arrival at the scene, Police found the two victims injured and the pickup truck damaged. The victims were rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic for initial treatment and were later referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for further medical care. The suspect, however, fled the scene.
Following sustained investigations, Mujaheed Suraj, who had been in hiding since the incident, was arrested at Kasoa Zongo.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the offence and claimed ownership of a pump-action gun allegedly used in the shooting. He was unable to produce any legal documentation for the firearm, stating that he purchased it in 2024 for ₵4,000 from a cattle herdsman at Gomoa Potsin in the Central Region.
Police say efforts are underway to trace and arrest the alleged seller of the firearm.
The suspect is currently in Police custody assisting with ongoing investigations, while the victims are reported to be responding positively to treatment but have not fully recovered.
The Central East Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to combating crime and maintaining public safety, with the continued support and cooperation of the community.
