The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has made a major breakthrough in ongoing investigations into a kidnapping syndicate operating in Wapuli, with the arrest of a key suspect after weeks of sustained intelligence-led operations.
On December 6, 2025, a PID team successfully rescued a 42-year-old man who had been kidnapped in Wapuli. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects believed to be part of a four-member kidnapping syndicate.

Police investigations revealed that the victim sustained life-threatening cutlass wounds during his captivity. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of GH¢100,000, of which GH¢90,000 was paid. Police were later able to retrieve GH¢70,000 as part of ongoing investigations.
Following the rescue, officers intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering to track down the remaining suspect.
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at about 1:30 a.m., police arrested Hoyeefe Amadu, identified as the fourth and key suspect, at his hideout in a village approximately 10 kilometres from the outskirts of Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu.
The three earlier suspects have since been remanded into prison custody and are expected to reappear in court, as investigations continue to dismantle the entire syndicate.
