NACOC Storms Budumburam, Nabs Notorious Drug Queen in Major Anti-Narcotics Sweep

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has carried out a major intelligence-led operation in Budumburam and surrounding communities in the Central Region, arresting several suspects and seizing large quantities of illicit drugs in a decisive crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse.

The early-morning operation targeted suspected drug dens and distribution points believed to be fueling drug-related crime in the area. According to NACOC, the raid forms part of its intensified nationwide efforts to dismantle drug networks and protect communities from the growing threat of narcotics.

Among those arrested was a 32-year-old woman identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother.” NACOC officials describe her as a key figure in the local drug trade who had repeatedly evaded arrest before the operation. She is believed to be a central player in a well-organised distribution network operating within Budumburam and its environs, allegedly coordinating both supply and street-level sales.

During the sweep, officers retrieved quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, along with items believed to be connected to drug peddling activities. The seizures, NACOC says, underscore the scale of the illicit trade operating in the area.

All suspects arrested are currently in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. NACOC has indicated that the individuals will be processed for prosecution in accordance with the law, while intelligence gathered from the operation will inform further actions.

The Commission has reiterated its commitment to sustaining pressure on drug trafficking networks across the country and has warned individuals involved in the narcotics trade that no area is beyond the reach of law enforcement.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with NACOC by providing credible information, as the fight against drug abuse and trafficking, the Commission notes, requires collective responsibility.
