The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, says adherence to the authentic faith exemplified by the biblical fathers is critical to national development.
Speaking at the Watch Night Service of Cedar Mountain Chapel to usher in the New Year, Rev. Wengam drew inspiration from the life of Patriarch Abraham, described as the father of the Christian faith. He urged Christians to emulate Abraham’s unwavering faith by believing boldly, living righteously, and upholding godly values in their daily lives.

According to him, authentic Christian faith produces citizens who are patriotic, incorruptible, and disciplined, qualities he believes are essential for strong work ethics and sustainable economic growth.
Rev. Wengam cautioned against what he described as a growing tendency among some Christians to serve God solely for material gain, without a firm commitment to holiness and righteous living. He stressed that such an approach does not reflect the true Christian faith handed down through the generations.
Looking ahead, the church leader expressed optimism that although 2026 may come with challenges for Ghana, it will also usher in greater favour and prosperity for the nation.
He further announced that all Assemblies of God churches nationwide will observe a week-long fasting and prayer session from Monday, January 6, to Sunday, January 11, to intercede for both the church and the country.
The service was attended by dignitaries, including the Burkinabe Ambassador to Ghana, David Kabre.
