The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a violent shooting incident that left six civilians and three police officers injured during a burial and funeral ceremony at Asamankese on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
According to police reports, officers received intelligence that firearms and cartridges were being transported into a room near the Chief’s Palace. A team was dispatched to the area, leading to the arrest of four suspects and the retrieval of one single-barrelled gun, 84 live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses, and two knives.
The suspects, identified as Isaac Ntim, Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam (29), and Buaben Richard (25), were taken into custody. However, their arrest triggered a violent reaction from some agitated youth who attacked the police with stones and other weapons, injuring three officers in the process. The mob also damaged two police vehicles by smashing their windscreens and side glasses.
Tensions escalated further when the youth blocked roads at the Asamankese–Akroso junction and around the Chief’s Palace, firing gunshots indiscriminately over claims that the bereaved family planned to bury six deceased relatives in the royal cemetery.
Six civilians — David Odame (28), Musah Gyakweli (29), Patrick Ofosu, Emmanuel Obeng (18), Asamoah Sey (18), and one yet-to-be-identified victim — sustained gunshot wounds. All are receiving treatment at the Asamankese Government Hospital.
Police say the situation has since been brought under control, and calm has been restored in the township. The Eastern South Regional Police Command has intensified patrols and surveillance in Asamankese to maintain peace and ensure public safety.
The Public Affairs officer of the Eastern South Police Regional Command, DSP David Fianko-Okyere, assured the public that a comprehensive security strategy is in place to protect lives and property and to allow residents to go about their normal activities.
