The Ghana Police Service, through the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has arrested ten suspects for allegedly creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.

The first six suspects, Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah, were arrested during a targeted intelligence-led operation on October 1, 2025, at Sogakope. The operation followed weeks of surveillance that identified the group as being behind multiple online fraud schemes.

According to police investigations, the suspects created fake websites and social media accounts impersonating popular food brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarco. Victims who placed food orders through these platforms were instructed to make advance mobile money payments but never received their deliveries.

Further investigations revealed that some victims were deceived into giving the suspects access to their mobile money wallets and bank accounts, leading to unauthorised withdrawals. Digital devices used in the operations were seized and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.

Following additional leads, police arrested four more suspects, including the alleged ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse, also known as Pop Smoke, along with Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli, at their hideout in Haatso, Accra, on October 12, 2025. Twelve mobile phones believed to contain crucial evidence were retrieved for forensic examination.

All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to this scam to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
