The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested five individuals believed to be members of the notorious Akwashee Boys gang, responsible for a series of violent motorbike-related robberies across the capital.

The suspects are: Iddrisu Razark alias Iddi, 27, Iliasu Amidu, 25, Serlorm Kportor alias Scammer or Sheriff, 24, Noah Asumbono, 26, and Collins Anafo alias Asamoah, 27.

Police say the arrests follow a violent robbery on 12th July 2025 at Adabraka, where a 74-year-old woman was attacked with machetes while returning home from her shop at Sempe. The attackers made away with her handbag containing shop keys, a Nokia phone, and 700 cedis. She suffered severe machete wounds to both arms and is receiving treatment.

During interrogation, Razark reportedly admitted that Anafo inflicted the machete wounds while he rode the motorbike. Amidu also confessed to stealing about 15 motorbikes from various areas including Pokuase, Bortianor, Sampa Valley, Spintex, Achimota, Madina, Ablekuma Fan Milk, Legon, Adabraka, and Korle Gonno Beach. He further revealed that the stolen bikes were sold to an accomplice identified only as Sule at Agbogbloshie.

According to the head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional police command, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, all five suspects have led police to some of their crime scenes. Investigations are ongoing to arrest other accomplices and recover more stolen motorbikes.

The Regional Police Command has once again, urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
