
A tragic building collapse in Cape Coast on the morning of Saturday, June 21, 2025, has resulted in the deaths of two individuals, following hours of heavy rainfall across the metropolis.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. near the popular “London Bridge” area on Ashanti Road, where an old brick storey building gave way and trapped three occupants beneath the rubble.

Emergency response teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ambulance Service, and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly responded swiftly to the scene. The Police also provided support with crowd control and scene security.
Earth-moving equipment, supplied by the Metropolitan Assembly, was deployed to assist in the rescue operation.

One victim, Fredrick Kwesi Yeboah, aged 21, was rescued alive and rushed to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
Sadly, the two other victims, Ataa Panin, aged 79, and Emmanuel Ankaful, aged 84, were found unresponsive. They were immediately transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where they were both pronounced dead on arrival by medical staff.
The rescue operation concluded at 1:50 p.m. the same day.
Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse. Further updates will be provided as the case develops.
