Yiwabra Bridge Collapse Threatens BECE Candidates’ Participation

The Assembly Member for the Yiwabra Electoral Area in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region, Stephen Kwofie, has issued a distress call over the imminent collapse of the Disue Bridge, the only access route linking Yiwabra to surrounding communities in the Western and Western North Regions.

According to Stephen, the deteriorating condition of the bridge poses a serious risk to the participation of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the area. He warned that if urgent action is not taken, students may be unable to reach their designated examination centres, putting their academic future in jeopardy.

“The bridge is hanging by a thread. If it gives way before the BECE, our candidates will be cut off completely. We risk seeing a generation of students miss their exams, this is unacceptable,” he said in an interview.

The Chief of Yiwabra, Nana Kwabena, also expressed grave concern, highlighting the broader implications of the bridge’s poor state on the local economy. He noted that farmers in the area are currently stranded and unable to transport their produce to market, deepening the hardship in the already underserved community.

Both the Assembly Member and the Chief are calling on the government, relevant authorities, and development partners to intervene urgently and reconstruct the bridge before lives, livelihoods, and the future of young students are further affected.

The situation has sparked anxiety among parents and educators alike, with fears growing that the long-standing neglect of critical infrastructure in the area may result in irreversible consequences.
