After nearly a decade on the run, one of Ghana’s most wanted fugitives has been captured. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 32-year-old Michael Owusu Ansah, alias ‘Baby Last’, who was wanted in connection with the 2016 robbery and murder of a police officer. His arrest is being hailed as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the region.
After nearly nine years on the run, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has finally captured one of the country’s most elusive armed robbery suspects—Michael Owusu Ansah, widely known as “Baby Last.”

The 32-year-old, along with four accomplices, was arrested on April 22, 2025, following a targeted intelligence-led operation. Ansah had been declared wanted after being linked to a deadly 2016 robbery incident at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso, which claimed the life of G/Cpl Frank Essel of the Police SWAT Unit.
Police say during interrogation, the suspect confessed to multiple robbery operations carried out across Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, Asuoyeboah, and nearby areas. All five suspects have been remanded by the Atasomanso Circuit Court and are scheduled to reappear on June 4.
In a separate but related operation on May 8, police arrested three armed men after a violent robbery in Kenyasi. The suspects—Umar Issah, Sherif Mohammed, and Abdul Jalelu—reportedly robbed two residents at gunpoint.
Police gave chase, resulting in a shootout in which one suspect, Sherif Mohammed, sustained a gunshot wound to his ribs. All three suspects are currently receiving treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public of continued efforts to combat crime and restore safety in the region.
