Just moments after securing bail in the high-profile GH¢49 million National Signals Bureau (NSB) cyber defence case, former NSB Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene has been re-arrested, this time in connection with an entirely separate investigation involving Ghana Water Limited.
In a dramatic twist at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, was re-arrested immediately after being granted bail. The new arrest is reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct at Ghana Water Limited.
His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, informed the court of the rearrest during proceedings, confirming that Adu-Boahene had initially secured bail following a 7-day remand issued on May 2. The remand was granted after the Attorney General’s office accused him of tampering with prosecution witnesses in the NSB cyber defense scandal.
In that case, Adu-Boahene, alongside his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and Advantage Solutions Limited, is facing charges including stealing, defrauding by pretences, and money laundering. They have all pleaded not guilty. The charges stem from the alleged misappropriation of $7 million (approximately ¢49 million) meant for a national cyber defence system.
Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem Sai told the court that all prosecution witnesses had completed their statements. The judge has since directed the Attorney General’s office to file witness statements and disclosures by May 20. The case has been adjourned to May 26, 2025, for a Case Management Conference.
Meanwhile, EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, reports that Adu-Boahene’s new arrest is related to the Ghana Water Company Limited Scandal, though details on that case are yet to be fully disclosed by authorities.
The unfolding saga adds another layer to the complex legal web surrounding the former intelligence chief, who now faces investigations on multiple fronts.
