Amidst anticipation and celebration, the Wordorkun Yoo of the Gborbu Temple in Nungua Kplejo, Naa Yomo Ayemoede, marked a significant milestone on Sunday by performing her inaugural rites.
This auspicious event sets the stage for a harmonious transition into this year’s annual Homowo festival.
Naa Yomo Ayemoede’s participation comes following her release from state custody after 18 days, signifying a return to her sacred duties within the temple.
‘Dudor mli nu woo,’ a sacred ritual translating to “filling the traditional pot with sacred water,” marks the commencement of the annual Homowo festivities at the Gborbu Temple.
This symbolic act, performed by the Wordorkun Yoo, is essential to usher in the celebrations for the Ga Dangme people.
The absence of this ritual would mean the absence of Homowo festivities for the entire year.
In a vibrant display of tradition and spirituality, Naa Yomo Ayemoadee, accompanied by the priests and priestesses of Nungua Kplejo, embarked on a ceremonial procession to the ancient well to collect the spring water.
En route, they paid homage to smaller but significant shrines amidst metrical chanting.
Upon returning to the Gborbu Temple, the sacred water was ceremoniously placed, signifying the completion of the vital ritual.
Following this, the revered Gborbu Wulomo, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru the thirty-third, joined Naa Yomo Ayemoadee at the ‘Kpor wulu nor’ for an official announcement to the people.
As the community eagerly awaits further insights, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru is set to address any remaining controversies in a comprehensive statement next week.
