The axing and demotion of former Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery has been greeted with wild jubilation within the Ghana Police Service over the Minister’s alleged lackluster leadership style.
Ambrose Dery MyNewsGh.com gathered, deployed top traditional rulers from his native Nandom and its environs to prevail on President Akufo-Addo not to drop him from government but it failed.
As a consolation and out of respect for the pleas, President Akufo-Addo chose to consider him as a Minister of State without portfolio at the Presidency just as he was prior to the exit of the Kufour administration in 2008 after being moved from the Upper West Region.
Ambrose Dery is said to have fallen out of favour with President Akufo-Addo and with Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia long ago and was set to be removed in a 2021 reshuffle but for a last-minute intervention by some prominent Chiefs and pastors.Â

Following his sack from the Interior Ministry, there has been wild jubilations across police platforms and depots.
Many of officers welcomed his sack from the Ministry saying “he was out of touch” with the security realities of the country
Most Police officer believe the now former Interior Minister “lacked the balls to call IGP to order regarding arbitrary transfers, intimidation and whom-you-know promotions among others”.
Reports gathered by this portal indicate the jubilation is not limited to the police as almost all the security service consider his sack “a good riddance”.Â
Ambrose Dery is accused of “being rusty and was not concerned about the welfare of personnel”.
Compared to the new Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, Ambrose Dery was said to have lacked “the commanding Charisma and the strategic planning competence to institute change across the service after 7 years in charge”.
Ambrose Dery who considers his reappointment a “technical demotion” and tried to pull all his lobbying strings to stay in office at the Ministry of Interior instead of a Minister of State.
There has been a turf war between him and the NPP in the Upper West Region as well as the National hierarchy with intensified calls for his removal.
