The Council of Elders Chairman of NDC, South Africa, Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie has admonished the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to give a showdown to Ghana’s economy which is in difficulty and revive it, rather than engaging in theatrics.
“What is a showdown, if the Vice President knows what a showdown is, then he should get to work and fix the economy. He should get to work and answer the 170 questions he gave the late Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, our former Vice President,” he stressed.
Mr. Quashie was reacting to comments by Dr. Bawumia that he is the only person among those vying for the NPP presidential slot who can beat former President John Mahama in next year’s general elections.
Speaking during his campaign in the Oti Region ahead of the party’s November 4 primary, Dr Bawumia said he has the north and zongo communities behind him, “that is why they [the NDC] fear Dr. Bawumia because they all know that I will give them a showdown”.
But Benjamin Quashie on Joy News’ AM Show on Monday stated, “I think it’s time we all called out the Vice President to let him know that Ghanaians are now wide awake, Ghanaians are now discerning.
“I watched that video several times, you see those days when the Vice President makes such comments, you see people laugh and make mockery of others, but did you see the demeanour of the people sitting there when he passed that comment? I think he made a joke and just laughed about it himself. People were not enthused about it.”
He also observed that being in government has exposed Dr. Bawumia as someone whose idea of solving Ghana’s economy were only based on textbooks.
“The vice president is a monumental failure. Do we still need any more school of thought to tell us this?
“What haven’t he said in opposition. The vice president came up with textbooks theories as to how to solve our economic situation, but when reality set in and he got to the Jubilee House, he has become a monumental failure.
“Now he doesn’t hold lectures, he doesn’t talk about the economy. Governance is a very serious business.”
Mr. Benjamin Quashie noted further that Ghanaians have given the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government “too much leeway” in their management of the country, and has therefore taken them for granted.
“I think Bawmia’s behaviour needs to be put in check now; everybody would have to call him out and tell him that he should stop the theatrics. He should get to work and get things solved for us,” he emphasized.
The Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders in South Africa, who was recently appointed a Member of NDC Volta Regional Communication Team, was confident that Dr. Bawumia can never win an election against John Mahama, insisting “that would never happen”.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Kofi Quashie has encouraged eligible Ghanaians to take advantage of the Electoral Commission’s limited voter registration exercise.
