A woman in Duase, within the Oforikrom Municipality of Kumasi, is under police investigation after allegedly burning and physically assaulting her nine-year-old sister in what neighbours fear is a case of prolonged child abuse.
The suspect, identified as Beauty Inakwe, reportedly lives in a compound house with the victim, Ruth Wisdom, and her own child. According to residents, Ruth was brought from Nigeria to live with her but has since endured repeated mistreatment.

The most recent incident occurred on Saturday, when Inakwe allegedly attacked the child for defecating inside their room. Tenants who heard the commotion intervened and rushed the injured girl to the Manhyia Hospital.
Health workers there confirmed the presence of both fresh wounds and older scars, indicating that the abuse may have been ongoing.

Residents also allege that Inakwe often locks the two children indoors at night while she goes to work, leaving them without access to sanitation. The room reportedly has no toilet, forcing the children to depend on a public facility that is sometimes closed.
Police at the Kenyase District Command arrested Inakwe on November 22, 2025. She was later granted bail after officers noted that she, too, had sustained injuries—believed to have resulted from a confrontation with neighbours before she was handed over to authorities.
The victim has since been treated and discharged but is still in pain. She is currently being cared for by concerned community members while investigations continue.
