The Special Anti-Galamsey Operations Team has arrested eight individuals during an intelligence-led operation targeting illegal mining activities in Apremadi, a community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The suspects — identified as Karim Issaka (38), Samuel Dugah (35), Seidu Karim (35), IssakaAzitarigah (24), Boadu Desmond (29), James Kabutey (21), Bashiru Idrissu (19), and Collins Amoako (24) — were apprehended while allegedly engaging in unauthorised mining.

As part of the operation, the police retrieved three (3) excavator monitors, four (4) excavator control boards, and three (3) excavator gear levers from the site. Efforts are ongoing to remove the excavators from the area.

All eight suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The retrieved items have been secured as evidence.

This operation forms part of the Ghana Police Service’s intensified crackdown on illegal mining (galamsey), which continues to threaten the country’s water bodies, farmlands, and environment.

Authorities reaffirm their commitment to enforcing the law and bringing perpetrators of illegal mining to justice.
