The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested several suspects and recovered 17 motorbikes allegedly stolen from various locations within the Wa Municipality and other parts of the region.
The operation began after a victim reported on July 11, 2026, that her black Luojia motorbike, registration number M-21-UW 3512, had been stolen from the Ghana National Fire Service premises in Jirapa.
Following intelligence-led operations, police arrested Nasiru Muftawu at Loho in possession of the stolen motorbike. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to the theft and was taken into custody to assist with investigations.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Basit Muftawu, alias Posey, 19; Issahaku Maruf, alias Katel, 22; and Mohammed Ali, alias Geewaa, 18.
Additional exhibits linked to the offences were also recovered from Rashid Kankan, 20; Mutala Rashad, 20; and Haruna Hamdan, alias DJ, 20.
The investigations subsequently led to the recovery of 16 more motorbikes allegedly stolen from UBIDS, Chakor and Glamon, all within the Wa Municipality.
The suspects were arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The Police Command is appealing to persons who have lost motorbikes to report to the Wa District Police Headquarters with valid ownership documents for identification and possible retrieval.
The Command has assured the public of its commitment to combating crime and dismantling criminal networks, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support policing efforts.
