The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly extorting money from gold dealers while impersonating members of the GoldBod Taskforce.
The suspects, identified as Foster Delord, aged 40, and Prince Worvi, aged 38, both of whom claim to be ex-military officers, were apprehended after police received complaints that they had been visiting gold buyers and falsely presenting themselves as taskforce officials.
A search conducted by the police led to the retrieval of several exhibits, including: one handcuff, one pepper spray, one electric shocker, a set of uniforms, and cash amounting to 500 cedis.
The suspects have since been arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court and have been remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has urged the public to exercise caution and verify the identities of individuals who present themselves as officials from government agencies, to avoid falling victim to impersonation and extortion.
