Tension in Nkwanta: IGP Deploys Armoured Reinforcements After Deadly Attacks

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed armoured reinforcements to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following renewed violent attacks that left five people dead.

Two armoured vehicles, accompanied by personnel from the National Police Operations, were dispatched to the area late Tuesday night to strengthen security and restore calm.

A joint security team made up of the Police, Military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service has since recovered five bodies—three males and two females, from two separate locations within the Nkwanta South Municipality.

Authorities say investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the attacks and to identify those responsible.

Residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities are being urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to support ongoing investigations.

The public has also been cautioned against the spread of misinformation and actions that could escalate tensions in the area.
