The Ghana Police Service in the Upper West Region has stepped up collaboration with political authorities to address security concerns and deepen peace-building efforts in the Wa West District.
The Upper West Regional Police Command on March 5, 2026, hosted the Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toubu, and the District Chief Executive, Richard Wullo, during a courtesy call aimed at reviewing the district’s security situation.

During the meeting, Francis Yiribaare, Upper West Regional Police Commander, briefed the delegation on ongoing police operations and investigations into several incidents that have occurred in the district over the past two years.
According to the Commander, while some cases have already been brought before the courts, others remain under active investigation.
DCOP Yiribaare indicated that crime levels in the district remain generally low, largely due to proactive security measures implemented by the police in collaboration with key stakeholders.

However, he noted that sporadic tensions linked to long-standing tribal feuds continue to pose security concerns in the area.
He explained that in some cases, crimes are often misinterpreted along tribal or group lines, rather than being treated as individual criminal acts. This situation can deepen mistrust and inflame tensions within communities.

The meeting therefore focused on strategies to strengthen coordination among security agencies, political authorities, traditional leaders and the youth to address the root causes of these tensions.
At the end of the engagement, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration and dialogue to promote peace, security and sustainable development in the district.
The leaders also emphasised the importance of community cooperation with law enforcement to ensure that disputes are resolved peacefully and that criminal activities are dealt with strictly under the law.
