Security has been beefed up with entry points cordoned off into the Bawku municipality as the 2022 Samanpiid festival enters its climax today, December 30.

People going in and out of the area are being thoroughly searched to prevent any unforeseen incidents as fighter jets hover in the air space.

Hundreds of security personnel were deployed to the Bawku municipality ahead of the climax of this year’s Samanpiid celebration, which started a week ago.

Barriers are mounted at every entry point into the municipality along with heavy security personnel who search and scanned every one entering or exiting.

Fighter jects also took over the air space all in a bid to ensure relative peace, security and safety.

The interior minister Ambrose Dery had earlier lifted the ban on wearing of smocks temporarily to allow the elements of the festival to be felt.

The traditional rituals began the week-long celebration with chiefs and people of the Kusaug traditional area.

The climax is today, December 30, at the Daduri park.

Earlier today, the Zugraan of Kusaug traditional area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, sacrificed hens and guinea fowls to the gods, calling for peace in Bawku and its environs.

The Zugraan dedicated this year’s Samanpiid sacrifices, appealing to the over one thousand major gods and shrines across his traditional area to intervene and help restore peace in Bawku.

The first Samanpiid festival was celebrated in 1983 to thank the gods for a bumper harvest and a successful year.
