Roadside Miracle: Police Return ₵85,000 Found on Highway, Restoring Faith in Public Service

In a rare and powerful display of integrity, officers of the Bono East Regional Police Command have returned a bag containing ₵85,000 to its rightful owner after it was found abandoned along the busy Techiman–Kumasi Highway.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of February 14, 2026, has drawn widespread praise and is being hailed as a shining example of professionalism, honesty, and public trust within the Ghana Police Service.

At about 4:20 a.m., officers on duty at the Police Snap Check Point spotted a bag lying by the roadside, believed to have fallen from a moving vehicle. The bag bore the name Ofori and a contact number.

Led by Inspector George Appiah, the officers retrieved the bag and, upon inspection, discovered it contained a large sum of money. Acting strictly in line with police procedures, the item was immediately handed over to the Regional Command for further investigation.

The contact number on the bag was traced to Stephen Ofori, a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown, Kumasi, who later came forward to claim ownership. He explained that the money, ₵85,000, was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle.

Following thorough verification, the cash was officially counted in the presence of the claimant and released to him.

The Bono East Regional Police Command has commended the officers involved, as well as vigilant members of the public, describing the incident as a clear reflection of police integrity, accountability, and effective community cooperation.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to upholding public trust and serving the nation with honesty and professionalism, one action at a time.
