The Accra Regional Police Command has launched investigations into violent clashes that marred the climax of the annual Homowo Festival at Anyaa and Sowutuom on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
According to preliminary reports, a misunderstanding erupted between followers of two rival chiefs during the sprinkling of the traditional food, Kpokpoi. The dispute escalated into an exchange of gunfire, spreading further when some attendees attempted to leave the festival grounds. The violence extended to nearby Olebu, where more attacks were recorded.
Tragically, three people lost their lives in the clashes: Abubakar Ramadan Sarbah, also known as Nii Kwashiebu, Theophilus Nii Amu Kwadjan and Joseph Shaibu Dodoo

Four others sustained injuries, including Enoch Amevor (treated and discharged), Samuel Adjei, Nathaniel Doku, and Frederick Lartey, also known as Nii Obrafourlife. They are currently receiving treatment at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Ridge Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
To restore calm, the Police have deployed additional personnel across the affected communities. Intelligence-led operations are also underway to track and arrest all individuals involved in the disturbances.
In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command cautioned traditional leaders, elders, and their supporters to strictly comply with agreed security arrangements during festivals and to refrain from actions that threaten public peace and safety.
