Police Intercept Tipper Trucks Loaded with Suspected Indian Hemp in Eastern Region

The Eastern Regional Police Command has intercepted two tipper trucks transporting a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The operation, which took place on June 11, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., was intelligence-led and carried out near Apesua, close to Nkurakan.

According to police, the two Howo Sino tipper trucks, with registration numbers GN 993-14 and GG 3674-20, were found to be carrying 150 sacks of the suspected substance, cleverly concealed under heaps of sand.

Two suspects, who were driving the trucks, have been arrested and are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations. Their identities are being withheld for operational reasons.

The police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and continue providing information that can help combat drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.
