The Police have intercepted a consignment of shotguns and ammunition being smuggled from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region through an intelligence-led operation.
The interception occurred before the consignment left Accra for its final destination. According to a police situational report sighted by Graphic Online, the operation was carried out on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m.

The report revealed that police received intelligence indicating that a suspect was transporting arms and ammunition on a blue motorcycle, destined for Kpandai. A surveillance team was subsequently deployed and spotted the motorcycle moving from the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange toward the Agbogbloshie Bus Terminal.

Upon realising he was being followed by the police, the suspect reportedly abandoned several parcels wrapped in black nylon bags and fled the scene.
A search of the abandoned packages led to the recovery of one A-Tac semi-automatic shotgun, two Jojef semi-automatic shotguns, and two boxes of cartridges containing a total of 500 BB cartridges.

Despite a coordinated search operation, police were unable to apprehend the motorcycle rider. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect and to trace the source and intended recipients of the weapons.
The Police have reiterated their commitment to combating the illegal circulation of firearms and ammunition, urging the public to provide credible information to support ongoing investigations.
