The Eastern North Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with the trafficking of a large consignment of suspected Indian hemp across the Volta Lake.
The suspects, Abraham Agonu, Michael Akuaku, and Confidence Amenuveve, were apprehended on May 28, 2025, at Asuboni, near Kwahu Adawso in the Eastern Region, while allegedly ferrying the substances across the lake.

During the operation, police seized 85 maxi sacks containing a total of 5,950 compressed and some non-compressed slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Additional items retrieved include one pump-action shotgun, two outboard motors, and a large engine-powered boat believed to have been used in transporting the consignment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the operation was orchestrated by a man identified only as Felix, who is believed to have used a separate boat heading toward the Akate area.

A manhunt has since been launched to arrest Felix and other accomplices believed to be part of the drug trafficking network.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting the activities of drug trafficking syndicates and urges the public to report suspicious activity to support national security efforts.
