The Ghana Police Service has recorded significant operational successes in its nationwide fight against violent crime, armed robbery, cyber-enabled offences, and the proliferation of illegal firearms.
Addressing the media at the CID Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaakor Donkor, said the achievements were the result of sustained intelligence-led operations conducted between November and December 2025 across the Greater Accra Region and other parts of the country.

She noted that the operations form part of a broader national strategy aimed at protecting lives, securing property, and maintaining public safety.
The 2024 ₵7.5 million Daylight Robbery at Adabraka
Police have arrested Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, in connection with the daylight robbery attack on a jewellery shop at Adabraka, where ₵7.5 million from a gold transaction was stolen.
The suspect was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman following months of intelligence operations. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and his accomplices, armed with AK47 rifles, intercepted the victim’s vehicle, fired multiple shots to disperse bystanders, injured the driver, and escaped with the cash. Efforts are ongoing to arrest remaining accomplices and recover the stolen money.

Arrest of Notorious Phone Snatching and Armed Robbery Syndicate
Five members of a notorious phone snatching and armed robbery syndicate operating in Accra and Tema have been arrested. The suspects, Seth Tetteh Noi (also known as Wonder, Emmanuel Selasi Monyekor, Abdul Fatao Sameed, Karam Fatao, and Abdul Jamel Mohammed, were apprehended during intelligence-driven operations on December 24 and 26, 2025.
Police recovered one pistol and one pump-action gun believed to have been used in several robberies. The group has been linked to a violent robbery of mourners at Ashaiman Under Bridge, where victims lost cash and valuables worth over ₵200,000. Another planned robbery at Ashaiman China Mall was successfully foiled.
Eight Arrested Over Violent Residential Robbery at Appolonia
Eight suspects have been arrested in connection with a violent residential robbery at Appolonia. The suspects were apprehended on November 8, 2025, following intelligence-led investigations.
The suspects were identified as Selasi Ofori, aged 26, a driver, Bismark Gati, aged 23 years, an Okada rider, Believer Meketor, aged 22, an Okada rider, Michael Obeng, aged 22, a driver’s mate, Sadik Abukakar, aged 25, a driver, Dawudu Fatawu, aged 28 years, a driver’s mate, Samuel Ofori, aged 21 years, a herdsman, and Destiny Idegbe were arrested on 8th November 2025.
Recovered exhibits include helmets, a cutlass, boots, and a body armour vest, all of which are assisting ongoing investigations.
Suspect Arrested for Impersonating a Soldier
In a separate intelligence-led operation, the Police have arrested a suspect who was impersonating a soldier while operating in parts of Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions. The suspect was arrested wearing full military camouflage. A search on him revealed two foreign unregistered pistols, one live 9mm ammunition, two live AK47 ammunitions, one military camouflage bag, one bayonet, one Huawei gota set, and a pair of handcuffs with serial No.46446.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect used the impersonation to facilitate criminal activities and intimidate members of the public. Items retrieved include two unregistered foreign pistols, live 9mm and AK47 ammunition, a bayonet, handcuffs, and other military-style equipment.
The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to identify accomplices and sources of the weapons.
Arms Dealer Arrested; Illegal Weapons Supply Disrupted
An intelligence-led operation on December 29, 2025, led to the arrest of Abdulai Ibrahim at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra while attempting to sell a CZ rifle for ₵35,000.
Intelligence further revealed that the suspect had been involved in the trafficking of firearms, which were often transported to the Northern Region. Acting on information, the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police launched an operation to secure the suspect’s arrest and retrieve the firearm.
The suspect, identified as Abdulai Ibrahim, directed the potential buyer to Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra, where he presented a brown box containing a CZ rifle, which he offered for sale at thirty-five thousand cedis, ₵35,000. He was arrested at the point of transaction.
During interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he had previously purchased and transported seven pump-action guns to individuals in Wulensi in the Northern Region and indicated that he sourced the weapons from an arms dealer operating around the UTC area in Accra.

The director general of police CID, COP Lydia Yaakor Donkor, said, the suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations, as efforts continue to dismantle the wider illegal arms supply network and prevent the circulation of prohibited weapons within the country.
Police Secure Conviction in Firearm Discharge Case
The Criminal Investigation Depament, CID, has secured the conviction of Pergringo Braimah Abubakah Sadick, also known as Cyborg, at the Adenta Circuit Court One for unlawfully discharging a firearm in public.
The 54-year-old was put before the Adenta Circuit Court One, presided over by Angela Attachie, on 31st December 2025, where he pleaded guilty to the charge and expressed remorse for his actions.
Based on the plea, the court convicted him and imposed a fine of two thousand penalty units, which amounts to ₵24,000 which he has since paid the fine in full. The court further revoked the convict’s firearm licence and ordered the confiscation of the firearm to the state.
Gun Amnesty Reminder
COP Donkor reminded the public of the ongoing nationwide Gun Amnesty Programme, urging citizens to voluntarily surrender illegal or unregistered firearms to the authorities. She warned that police will continue firm enforcement against illegal possession and use of firearms.
