
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man for unlawful possession of a large quantity of suspected narcotic substances following an intelligence-led operation in Akatsi, Volta Region.
The suspect, identified as Bukari Yakubu, was apprehended at his residence in the early hours of Saturday, May 10, 2025, around 1:00 a.m. after police operatives had placed him under surveillance for suspected drug-related activities.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of ninety-two (92) slabs of a substance believed to be Indian hemp. The items were wrapped in yellowish material and concealed within the property. Additionally, two Royal motorbikes suspected to be stolen were also retrieved during the operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect has been involved in the illegal trade and distribution of narcotics within Akatsi and its surrounding communities. During initial interrogation, Yakubu admitted ownership of the substances and the motorbikes.

He is currently in police custody assisting with further investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and urges the public to report any suspicious activity in their communities.
