The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has recorded significant gains in its fight against armed robbery, following two separate operations that led to the arrest of four suspected robbers and the killing of another.
In the first operation on 9th July 2025, the Regional Operations team, while on patrol, received a distress call reporting that a group of armed men had blocked the Ankaase-Asuogya-Fenaso road in the Amansie Central District and were robbing commuters at gunpoint.
The Police team swiftly moved to the scene and found the suspects in action. Upon spotting the officers, the suspects attempted to flee on two motorbikes. The Police pursued them, successfully demobilised the bikes and arrested all four suspects: Rahman Alhassan (27), Nurudeen Fatawu (25), Naafewu Masahudu (22), and Yaw Saaka (42).

A search led to the retrieval of one pump-action gun, twenty rounds of AAA ammunition, a sword, and a string of talismans.
In the second operation on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025, the Police received intelligence about an ongoing robbery attack at Abedwum, a suburb of Obuasi. The Obuasi Divisional Operations team, led by the unit commander, responded promptly.
Upon arrival, the suspects fled into a nearby forest, firing shots at the Police. The officers pursued them into the forest, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that led to the death of one suspect. A search of the deceased suspect’s backpack uncovered fourteen live rounds of ammunition and other items. The remaining suspects, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, managed to escape.

The Police urge the public to report anyone with suspicious injuries, especially gunshot wounds, to the nearest Police station. Additionally, the Command calls on the public to continue supporting crime-fighting efforts by volunteering information about criminal activities.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and thanked residents for their cooperation so far.
