
A breakthrough in the fight against the narcotics trade in Kumasi, police have arrested a key suspect believed to be a kingpin operating from the notorious drug hub known as “Thinker Island.” This follows a directive from Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed to dismantle the base. The suspect, 39-year-old Adam Mohammed, was picked up in a swift police operation on Saturday night.
In a targeted move to clamp down on illicit drug activity in the Ashanti Region, the Airport District Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man believed to be a major player in the local narcotics trade.
Adam Mohammed was apprehended at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the “Number One” Café in Aboabo Number 1, an area identified by law enforcement as a key distribution point for illegal drugs in Kumasi.
The arrest follows a directive from the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, who recently ordered a full-scale crackdown on “Thinker Island,” a notorious enclave for drug activity in the region.
During the search, police retrieved different varieties of Tramadol in 250 milligrams, 120 milligrams, 225 milligrams, and 50 empty cartons used for packaging and transporting the drugs
Additionally, an amount of Sixty-Six Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty Cedis (66,950.00) was discovered in the suspect’s room. The cash is believed to be proceeds from the sale of the illicit drugs and has been retrieved for evidential purposes.

Ashanti Central Regional Police PRO, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, briefed the media on the arrest, stating that it was the result of weeks of surveillance and intelligence-led operations.
Police say Adam Mohammed is currently in custody and assisting with investigations as efforts intensify to round up other members of the narcotics ring.
Authorities have vowed to dismantle the Thinker Island network entirely, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
The Regional Police Command reiterate its unwavering commitment to the fight against drug-related crimes and the protection of lives and property.

This latest operation, undertaken in response to the directive of the Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, marks a significant step in reclaiming Thinker Island from the grip of illicit drug activity and criminal elements.
The Command commended the efforts of the Regional Operations team and the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for their swift and decisive action.
The arrest of 34 suspects and the seizure of various suspected illegal substances demonstrate a resolve to ensure public safety.

All suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
The retrieved exhibits are being processed for forensic examination to aid in prosecuting those found culpable.
