Ofankor Assault Suspect Arrested; Police Rescue Tenant and Launch Search for Victim

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man seen in a viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence in Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.

The suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, was picked up on Monday, 17th November 2025, at the family home.

According to a statement signed by the CID Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, two of the suspects’ siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also arrested after they attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video. Police intervened and rescued the tenant to ensure her safety.

The statement added that efforts are currently underway to locate and protect the wife, who fled the scene before officers arrived.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law.
