Member of Parliament for South Dayi Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor has outlined several challenges facing the National Identification Authority NIA. These pose some setbacks to the full rollout of the Ghana Card to the Ghanaian public.
Some of the problems he listed include lack of proper internet connectivity and lack of adequate staff due to inadequate financial allotment. There is also an avalanche of applicants for the sim card registration across the country due to the limited timeline and the bank of Ghana directive to use the Ghana Card as the only national identification for bank transactions effective July 1, 2022; under LI 2100.
He lamented the economic burden the registration has on some of his constituents. They have to travel to other towns like Peki to register, only to get there to find that there is no network.
