Military Officers Detained in Upper East Region Over Alleged Cattle Theft

Police in Zebilla, in the Upper East Region, have detained a group of military officers stationed in Binduri to assist with investigations into an alleged cattle theft case.

The officers were intercepted while escorting a Kia truck transporting five cattle suspected to have been stolen from Poayanmiri, a community in the Binduri District. According to sources, one of the officers allegedly arranged for the truck from Bolgatanga to convey the cattle.

The Zebilla Police have taken custody of the cattle and the driver of the vehicle, as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the level of involvement of all parties.

In a related development, the same officers are reported to have been involved in an incident in Zebilla township, where a private, unregistered vehicle they were travelling in allegedly knocked down a woman and her child. The vehicle is also said to have damaged an 80-year-old woman’s provisions container and other items.

The purpose of the officers’ movement at the time of the incident remains unclear. Police say inquiries are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
